  Mutual Aid Structure Fire    
 

Structure Fire at 14232 Jakes Lane, Smithfield, 0333 15 June 2009.  IWVRS M-64 on scene first, Chief-10 second and Quint-10 third. 101 established initial command and then turned over to 502. SVFD Engine
52 laid 5 inch line from hydrant across 4 lanes of Route 10 to supply E-51 and Q-10. Tanker-10, Engine-10, Car-10 and Zone-11 also on scene.

At 0452, Z-11, Chief-10, E-10 and M-64 were dispatched from fireground to 10-50 overturned truck on Reynolds Drive.

    Reported Boater in Distress (Rescue Marina)  
July    

At 1233 13 June 2009 Station 10 was dispatched to the vicinity of the Rescue Marina for a reported boat in distress possibly hit by lightning during a torrential rain storm. Boat-10 was launched from the Rescue Marina ramp next to Capt. Chuck- a-Mucks Restaurant and proceeded to search south along the west bank of Jones Creek. Smithfield Police Dept. rescue boat also arrived and, with a 2 man CVFD crew and SPD operator, followed Boat-10 to search south along the east bank of Jones Creek. Both boats converged at the reported distress scene and then continued the search south on Jones Creek. A boat matching the description of the boat in distress was found and all occupants were reported safe.

  Overturned Vehicle Route 10    
 

CVFD was dispatched 0228 7 June 2009 for an overturned vehicle on Route 10. Rescue-10, Squad-10 and Zone-10 responded. One overturned vehicle was found in the left northbound lane. An extensive search of the area was conducted and no occupants were found. Scene was turned over to VSP and IOWC Sheriff's Deputy. CVFD units remained on scene to assist while vehicle was removed by Browns Auto Service.

 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
    Mutual Aid MVA Head on Collision
 

CVFD was dispatched 0726 3 June 2009 mutual aid for IWVRS 2nd call to a two-vehicle head-on collision on Turner Drive south of Smithfield High School. One ALS and one BLS patient were transported in S-10 to RRMC with a crew of two IWVRS ALS providers who had arrived in Medic-62.

    MVA James River Bridge  
 

On April 29th around 0733 hrs Station 10 was dispatched to an MVA on the James River Bridge.  Units arrived on scene to find two vehicles involved with heave damage.  One patient was transported to a local Emergency Room, scene was turned over to Virginia State Police and after vehicles were removed from the bridge units cleared.

  Gazebo Fire (Butterfield Lane)

Friday, April 10th Station 10 was dispatched to a reported Gazebo on fire at the end of a pier.  Units arrived on scene to find a Gazebo still smoldering that had been burning for a while.  Homeowner stated when they woke up they noticed the Gazebo on the ground and had been burning for a while.  The fire was extinguished units cleared and returned to quarters.

    Structure Fire (16000 blk Carrollton Blvd)

Wednesday, April 8th Station 10 was dispatched to a structure fire at an apartment complex in the 16000 blk of Carrollton Blvd.  Units arrived on scene to find a whicker that had been on fire.  The chair was in the residence when it caught fire, fire had been put out prior to unit’s arrival.  This fire was caused by a burning candle.  Units cleared and returned to quarters.

  Stove Fire Villa Court  
 

On March 26th Station’s 10 & 50 were dispatched to a reported structure fire at an apartment complex.  Quint 10 and Engine 10 arrived on scene and found a stove on fire.  Fire was put out, and stove was removed from the building and placed out back of the complex.  Units overhauled the kitchen and checked for extensions.
