Structure Fire

Bush Creek Circle

At 2222 hours on July 25th Sta. 10 and Sta. 50 (Smithfield) were dispatched to a reported structure fire, smoke coming from a residence at 24233 Bush Creek Cir. While responding Suffolk E-5 was requested to assist due to close proximity to the Suffolk line and comments on the extent of the fire. Q-10 arrived with a crew of 4 at 2226 hours to find heavy smoke pushing from the open front door of a large three story house. 103 Assistant Chief Brower established Bush Creek command as the crew on the Quint began to set up with a 1 3/4" line for an interior attack through the “A” side first floor on what was then determined to be a working basement fire. An all clear on occupants was confirmed by neighbors and family members. E-10 was next to arrive laying 300' of 5" to be supplied by T-10. As 101 Chief Acree arrived command was passed with 103 tasked with operations of what turned out to be a heavily involved basement fire with possible extension to the floor above. Crews were pulled out of the interior due to high heat and lack of ventilation. Entry was then made on the “D” side into the basement (walk in) with two 1 3/4" lines. These lines were manned by CVFD crews as well as crews from Suffolk E-5C. E-53 (Smithfield) was assigned to RIT as crews attacked the fire with good results. Command marked the fire under control at 2332 with complete destruction of the basement, heavy damage to the first floor with complete burn through of the kitchen floor. The fire was held to the wing of origin with heat and smoke damage to rest of the residence. Over 35 firefighters from Carrollton, Smithfield, Suffolk and Chuckatuck worked to contain the stubborn fire. Equipment on scene included Q-10 (attack), E-10 (RIT), T-10 (water supply), R-10 (light tower & cascade), S-10 (rehab), Chief 10 (command), Smithfield E-53 & E-51, Suffolk E-5 & Chuckatuck E-29. E-53's & E-29's crews were rotated to Sta. 10 to cover Carrollton. No additional calls were run during the fire. The members of CVFD would like to thank our neighbors for their assistance at this stubborn fire.
