Structure Fire |
At 2324 hours on July 30th, Sta. 50 (Smithfield) and Sta. 10 were dispatched to a structure fire at 601 N. Church St. in Smithfield, the Gwaltney Packing Plant a part of Smithfield Foods. Q-10 responded with a crew of 5. Upon arrival at 2334 hours of the working fire, Q-10 was assigned to water supply while the crew was sent to staging to be utilized as needed for suppression operations. Q-10 utilized a hydrant on N. Church St. supplying a 5" line laid by E-51 to feed E-52. Chief 10 was utilized to assist in blocking N. Church St. as the 5" had to be stretched across the roadway. After the fire was marked under control by command, the Quint was cleared and returned to quarters at 0041. Over 30 firefighters from Smithfield, Carrollton and Rushmere fire departments were utilized to control the fire on the second floor of the pork packing plant. Sta. 60 (Isle of Wight Rescue) was utilized to set up rehab. R-10A was manned and staged at the Carrollton Smithfield border to cover both districts. No additional calls were run during the fire. |
