At 0632 hours on March 21st, Station 10 was dispatched to a fire alarm at 23060 Channel Way. Q-10 responded with a crew of three (B. Brower, T. Nunez & J. Rodman). Upon arrival at 0637, they found a single story residential structure with smoke showing from the craw space vents.
B. Brower upgraded the response to a working structure fire. Central quickly toned Station 10 and 50 due to the upgrade. Further investigation from the crew found a hot spot on the dining room floor with the TIC. 106 (Capt Rastatter) arrived and established Channel Way Command,
C-10, E-10, T-10, R-10 & S-10 responded, bringing the total number of on scene members to 13. Due to the resources on scene, command cancelled Sta. 50. Q-10's crew had also stretched a hand line into the structure. Once all the furnishings were removed from the dining room, a hole was cut directly above the fire allowing quick extinguishment of the fire under the floor. Ventilation quickly followed resulting in minimal damage to the structure. With Chief Acree on scene, an investigation revealed that the fire had started from an overheated fan motor under the house. The last unit cleared at 0807 hours just as Station 10 was being dispatched to the third call of the day, an overturned vehicle on Reynolds Drive. Units arrived to find a vehicle upright in a ditch with no occupant. This just goes to show that fire alarm systems do indeed work and that they should never be taken lightly! |
