Carrollton Volunteer Fire Department is please to announce several upcoming classes over the next few months. All training classes are also posted on the department calendar. Fire Instructor I (Carrsville Volunteer Fire Department)

Dates: January 13, 20, 27; February 2, 10 & 16
Class can hold 24 students (4 reserved for Station 10)

Fire Instructor I (NNFD Training Bureau)

Dates: January 4, 11, 18, 29; February 14
Pre-Requisites:  2003 Edition Fire Instructor I or Instructor I Upgrade
Registration:  A VDFP Student Application must be submitted with a $25.00 deposit

2008 Southampton County Regional Fire School

Registration:
A non-refundable registration fee of $20.00 per student will be charged for this school. This fee includes a dinner on Saturday night for the students. Checks should be made payable to Southampton County Fire & Rescue Association.
Pre-registrations are accepted on a fust-come, first-served basis. NO PHONE REGISTRATIONS WILL BE ACCEPTED. Pre-registration deadline is March 21, 2008.

Some classes require the purchase of manuals, which will be available at the school. Some classes require SCBA and/or protective clothing. It is the policy of the Virginia Department of Fire Programs firefighters with beards will not be allowed to participate in live fire drills or in a hazardous environment, scenarios requiring the use of SCBA ( Ref: OHSA). Students will not be allowed to dress in shorts while participating in classes.

NFA STICO
"Strategy & Tactics for the Initial Co. Officers"

April 5 & 6, 2008    12 Hours
This course is designed to meet the needs of Company Officers responsible for managing the operations of one or more companies during structural fire fighting operations. STICO is designed to develop the management skills needed by company officers to accomplish assigned tactics at structure fires.
Prerequisites: None

Confined Space Rescue Technician
April 5 & 6, 2008    16 Hours
A course designed to examine hazard recognition, victim access, stabilization and retrieval. The curriculum closely , follows Virginia Labor and Industry guidelines with regard to definitions, equipment and rescue team preparation. Practical and classroom sessions focus on three primary hazards associated with confined space entry: physical, atmospheric and physiological. Much effort is devoted towards realistic training evolutions using the latest equipment and techniques: to assure student retention of the material.
Prerequisites: Confined Space Awareness & Operations / Rope Rescue II / SCBA Training required / student must be 18 years ofage.

Locksmith Auto Entry for the Firefighter
April 5, 2008           8 Hours
This one day course will cover different locking mechanisms with vehicles. Will include some hands on activities. Prerequisites: None

Rapid Intervention Team Training
April 5 & 6, 2008 16 Hours

This is a physically demanding class dealing with nationally recognized and recommended information and skills necessary for firefighter rescue. Considerable time and effort is spent on topics such as locating, freeing and removing downed firefighters, specialized tools for RIT and safety and command functions.
Prerequisites: Fire Attack Essentials and / or Firefighter 1. Equipment: Full turnout gear, SCBA with spare bottle.

Volunteer Leadership Forum
April 5, 2008                    8 Hours
This is a facilitated discussion that involves all ofthe participants. Chiefs and other fire officers will work with the participants to develop a list of subjects relevant to today's fire service. The group will discuss the various "hot topics" and share information on successes and challenges. Come and join a group of Fire Service Professionals and learn from real life experiences. Sponsored by the Virginia Fire Chief's Association Inc.

Driver Aerial Operator
April 5, 6, 12 & 13, 2008                                        32 Hours
A four module course (part of the driver / operator curriculum) with detailed instruction on the operation, maintenance and design of Aerial Ladder Apparatus. Includes types and construction of aerial apparatus, positioning the apparatus, strategy & tactics and testing.
Prerequisites: Firefighter I and EVOC S-3 certified. Equipment: Full turnout gear.

Swift Water Rescue Awareness                                       8 Hours
April 6, 2007
Swift Water Rescue Awareness level training is an eight hour course designed for all emergency responders. It is an introductory course for all water related training which may include swift water, surf, ice and dive. It provides the student information on how to recognize the hazards associated with water related incidents. The course meets NFP A 1670 for Water Rescue Awareness training. The students who successfully complete the course will receive a Virginia Department of Fire Programs certificate of attendance for Water Rescue.

Basic Pump Operations
April 5 & 6, 2008                                     16 Hours
A course designed for new operators with emphasis on hands­on operation of pumpers at draft, and from hydrant and relay operations.
Prerequisites: Junior Firefighters must be Firefighter I certified.
Equipment Required: Full turnout gear required . Departments sending students are strongly encouraged to send apparatus, if possible.

General Aviation Fire Fighting for Structural Firefighters
April 5 & 6, 2008                                    16 Hours
This course is designed for those fire depts. that are not tasked with aviation fire protection and I or do not have the I'specialized ARFF tools I equipment. This 16 hour program provides a combination of classroom, field trip, and group \exercises designed to familiarize firefighters with airports, iaircraft, and aircraft systems responding to on and off airport .emergencies and other topics.

Emergency Vehicle Operations Course (EVOC)
           April 5 & 6, 2008                                    16 Hours
This course stresses safe vehicle operation and defensive driving techniques and includes Virginia Motor Vehicle laws pertinent to operation of emergency vehicles. This class will explain how emergency driving differs from non-emergency driving. This course will satisfy the Department of Health
I requirements for ambulance drivers. Class size is limited to 30 students.
Prerequisites: (1) Student must have a valid driver's license in order to participate in the practical exercise. (2) Student must be 18 years of age (minimum) to receive certification.
Equipment: Student's departments are encouraged to bring apparatus for practical evolutions.

L.P,. Gas Emergencies
April 5 & 6, 2008                                     16 Hours
A course designed to review the properties of liquefied l petroleum gas, its use and storage. Various containers, construction, handling devices and different transportation hazards will be addressed through lecture and actual case studies. Exercises will be included using different L.P. Gas props during live burns.
Prerequisites: Firefighter I or Fire Attack Intermediate.
Junior Firefighters must be Firefighter I Level Certified. Equipment: Full turnout gear & SCBA
