
Carrollton Volunteer Recognized by IOW
CAPT Kaven Melton was recognized this evening by the Isle of Wight Department of Emergency Services for his service to Carrollton and Isle of Wight Community. The award was presented during the County Board of Supervisors meeting recognizing the efforts of CAPT Melton and members from IOW Emergency Services. The recognition stems from a December 11th, 2020 response where CAPT Melton was among one of the first responders on scene to a 56 year old male patient suffering from a heat attack. After the initial response CAPT Melton assisted the IOW Medic crews with rapidly transporting the patient to Riverside where he was treated and released just 2 days later. The quick actions by CAPT Melton and the crews on scene were recognized on January 15th by Riverside Regional with the presentation of the Heart Saver Award.
CAPT Melton has been a member of Carrollton Volunteer Fire Department since April, 2016. He was promoted to CAPT on July, 3oth 2020 where he oversees several operational and administrative program from the Department. In addition to his service the Carrollton Community, CAPT Melton is a career firefighter in the Hampton Roads area and local business owner.
