
Multi-Agency Search Suspended
Around 2330 on August 9th, a Good Samaritan stopped at Station 10 to express concern over an individual standing on the Crittenden Bridge. Members notified the IOW Dispatch and IOW Sheriffs were dispatched to the area to conduct a welfare check. At 2335 Carrollton units were dispatched to a possible person in the water in the vicinity of Crittenden Bridge on Chuckatuck Creek after IOW Sheriff’s department was unable to locate the individual.
Carrollton units responded to the vicinity and established Command. Boat 10 commenced searching in vicinity of the bridge and was later joined by Suffolk Fire and Rescue Boat 5. Together they completed a comprehensive search, in coordination with US Coast Guard Sector Virginia, from the bridge to the mouth of the James River. Aviation assets from Coast Guard Air Station Elizabeth City later joined the search making several sweeps of the areas with nothing found.
The search continued for over two hours with nothing found. There were no subsequent or correlating reports. All search efforts were suspended.
Responding units included : Utility 10, Boat 10, Medic 10, Squad 10, 103, Suffolk Rescue Boat 10, and IOW Sheriff.
